Well organised from first phone call. The lady was quick, efficient and she was able to give us a price for the job straight away. Edward (apologises if I have mis-remembered your name!) was excellent. He was super friendly and professional. He clearly was experienced and had our front door open again in minutes after locking ourselves out with another set of keys still in on the other side! The price was excellent for an emergency callout on a Sunday. (Leicestershire area) Highly recommended.

A brilliant company including the call handler who was so sympthetic. They are local to me and arrived within about 30 mins. My key was left in the lock on the inside of my front door as I hurried out and it open within minutes using a simple gadget. Thank you!!

How much is a locksmith in Liverpool?

With All Services 4U you pay for labour by the hour, from a one-hour minimum, at a rate we publish, and nobody charges you for turning up.

A set of new keys on a tagged ring, hanging from a front door lock
Keys on a tagged ring after a lock change.

What will I actually pay to get back in?

Opening a locked door costs £59 an hour from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and £69 an hour at all other times, plus VAT, which makes £70.80 and £82.80. The first hour is the minimum and there is no call-out charge.

So a door opened on a Tuesday afternoon inside the hour, with no parts, comes to £59 plus VAT: £70.80. After the first hour, time is billed in 15-minute steps, and travel, parking, fuel and congestion cost nothing. A new cylinder or lock is priced separately, by name.

If a door cannot be opened without damage, you may need a replacement lock or a door repair as well. That goes on the written quote first, and if the job changes we stop and quote again.

Work out the labour cost

We charge labour by the hour, with a one-hour minimum and 15-minute steps after that. Choose when you need the locksmith and how long the job takes; your locksmith tells you the expected time before starting.

Labour £59.00 + VAT £11.80 = £70.80

Labour only. Parts, such as a replacement cylinder, and any door or frame repair are quoted separately, in writing, before work starts. No call-out charge.

How soon can a locksmith get to me in Liverpool?

We tell you on the call. We don't promise a number of minutes, because it depends on where the nearest locksmith is when you ring.

Is it dearer at night or on a Sunday?

Yes. Weekday evenings after 6pm, every night from midnight to 7am and all day at weekends are on our out-of-hours rate, still with no call-out fee. You pay the engineer on the invoice, by card or in cash.

Four things move the price

Four things move the price

Four things change what a locksmith job costs: the time of day, the lock and the door, any damage, and parts.

  • The time you need the door openedAn evening, weekend or night call is priced differently from a daytime one, so ask which rate applies.
  • The lock and the doorA standard latch opens differently from an anti-snap cylinder or a multi-point UPVC lock.
  • DamageA snapped key, a forced door or a seized mechanism adds work.
  • PartsA replacement cylinder or lock body is a cost separate from opening the door.

A locksmith quote that does not separate time, lock, damage and parts is harder to check. The protection is the one question you can ask: what is the estimated total, and will the locksmith stop and tell you before it goes over?

I rent from a housing association. Is it cheaper to let them do it?

Compare the figures. Plus Dane publishes its own charges: "£60 an hour for us to come to your home, make safe and complete a repair", rising to £120 "Outside of working hours (Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.45pm)", and "Lock changes and replacement keys: £100".

Our rate is the same whoever your landlord is. If you use us, tell your association what was done, because the door is still theirs (each association's rule).

  1. You ring

Calls are answered 24 hours a day. Our locksmiths travel from their last job, not a depot, so on the call we tell you when the nearest one can reach you.

    • Calls answered every day, 24 hours
    • Live updates on the arrival time
  2. We ask

Which door you are outside, whether you own or rent, what has happened, and what the lock looks like.

  3. We quote in writing

Before work starts: the labour time we expect, named parts with the lock's make and standard, VAT and an estimated total. If the job changes or will run over, we stop and quote again.

  4. At your door

Our locksmith shows ID, and we always ask for proof that you live at the address before a door is opened.

  5. Afterwards

You get an itemised report of the job, and our labour is guaranteed for six months against faulty workmanship.

Who should ring us, and who should ring someone else

We take calls from tenants, owners, landlords, managing agents and small businesses locked out of a home or business premises, or with a lock that has failed or been forced.

  • Locked out of a car

For a car lockout, our auto locksmith service has its own page; this page covers homes and business premises.

  • A smart lock

Fitting a smart lock is planned work, not an emergency: our smart lock page covers it.

Ring for the rate and a written quote

Tell All Services 4U the address and which door. The quote comes in writing, by text or email, before any work starts.

Rent from Torus, Onward, Riverside, Sanctuary or Plus Dane? What each says about lost keys

All five list replacing lost keys as the tenant's job. Two go further on lockouts: Torus expects the tenant to arrange and pay for a locksmith, and Plus Dane charges for letting you back in. A lock that has simply failed is different: report that to your association as a repair.

  1. You rent from a housing association

A faulty lock: your association's emergency line, with the numbers in the table. Lost keys: read what your own association says first.

  2. You rent a flat privately

We open your own flat once you show you live there; a new lock is your landlord's to agree.

  3. You are a student

A shared house off Smithdown Road or a block near the Baltic Triangle: the doors differ, and so does who decides on them.

  4. You own the home

It is your door and your choice of lock. On an older terrace, tell us whether it has a mortice, a night latch or both.

  5. You let or manage the property

Tell us the address and the reason: lost keys, a tenant who has left, a forced door. The lock change is quoted in writing first.

  6. A shop, office or other premises

Businesses use the same number, and our locksmith services cover commercial premises.

I rent from a housing association. Do I ring them or a locksmith?

Most social homes in Liverpool belong to housing associations: Census 2021 records 21.9% of the city's households as "Other social rented" and 4.5% as renting from the council. Liverpool City Council's own housing pages say "Housing associations and other registered social landlords are responsible for managing and maintaining their homes."

If the lock is faulty, ring your association's emergency line. If you have lost your keys or locked them inside, read your association's line in the table first. Torus puts "Arranging and paying for a locksmith to gain access to the property if they lose their keys" on the tenant's own list; the other four speak only of replacing keys or locks. Either way, tell the association afterwards what was done to its door.

AssociationEmergency lineWhat it says about lost keys
Torus0800 678 1894, "24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year"Lists "Tenant locked out of the Property" as an emergency, then adds "please note the replacement of lost keys are rechargeable to the customer".
Onward Homes0300 555 0600, "24 hours a day, seven days a week"Its tenant list includes "Replacing keys or locks (unless caused by fair wear and tear over a long period)".
Riverside0345 111 0000, "24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year""Replacing lost keys" is on the tenant's list; "a front door that doesn’t lock" is on its emergency list.
Sanctuary0808 168 3473 (North West), Customer Hub "open 24 hours a day, seven days a week"The tenant is responsible for "Replacing lost keys and replacing locks if you lose your keys."
Plus Dane0800 169 2988, "a 24/7 out of hours service"Charges for "Providing access to homes if keys or fobs are lost or misplaced or replacing locks"; "Lock changes and replacement keys: £100".

Can I have the lock changed on my association flat after losing my keys?

The associations expect it to happen at your cost: Torus lists "Lock changes and replacing keys/fobs due to loss of keys etc." among the tenant's jobs. The door still belongs to the association, so tell it before a new lock goes in, and if your flat door is a fire door, ask first.

What if the door gets damaged getting me in?

Torus recharges tenants for "Any damage caused by forced entry made at the customer’s request". Before we start, our written quote states who pays if the door or frame is damaged, and where the lock allows it our non-destructive entry service opens the door without replacing anything.

Housing association tenant locked out tonight?

All five associations list replacing lost keys as the tenant's job. Call us with your postcode and hear our rate before anyone sets off.

City-centre apartments: fobs, concierges, managing agents and fire doors

In Liverpool city centre 79.4% of households live in flats and 61.7% rent privately, so a lockout there usually involves two doors: the building's, which its managing agent controls, and your own, which we can open once you have shown you live there.

  • From the street

The street door of a block

The fob reader and intercom belong to the building, so its managing agent or concierge decides (who can let you in).

  • Your door

    Your own flat

We open it once you show you live there, even if your landlord is not answering (renting privately).

  • Shared house

Your room in a shared house

Off Smithdown Road, the front door and your room door are both the landlord's responsibility (locked out of your room).

  • A house

    A terraced house's own door

In Kensington and Anfield it may be older timber with a mortice or a night latch (older doors).

I can't get past the main door of my block. Who can let me in?

The concierge, if there is one, or the building's managing agent, freeholder or residents' management company. The street door, the fob reader and the intercom serve every flat, so nobody should alter them without the go-ahead of whoever runs the building.

Once a neighbour or the concierge has let you into the hallway, your own flat door is a job we can do. When you call, tell us whether you are outside the street door or your own.

My landlord isn't answering. Can you open my flat without them?

Yes, if it is the flat you live in: we open it once you have shown you live there. A new lock is your landlord's to agree, so tell them before one goes in.

Liverpool's landlord licensing covers "around 80% of the city’s private rental sector", so your landlord probably needs a licence, and the council tells private tenants to "always speak to your landlord first" about the condition of their home. Report a worn-out lock to them.

My flat door is a fire door. Does that change anything?

Yes: get the managing agent's agreement before the lock is changed or the door drilled. In a block with storeys over 11 metres, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 require the flat entrance doors to be checked once a year, on a best-endeavour basis, and the communal fire doors every quarter.

In lower blocks there is no set interval, but every fire door, flat doors included, must stay "capable of providing adequate protection". Our fire door repair page covers that work.

Student lets off Smithdown Road, and student flats around the Baltic Triangle

Liverpool's students live in two kinds of home. Off Smithdown Road, where 19.8% of residents aged 16 and over are full-time students, 64.1% of households live in terraced houses. Around the Baltic Triangle the student share is 40.2%, but 75.8% of households are in flats, so the doors there are a block's street door and your own flat or room.

I'm locked out of my room in a shared house. Can you open it?

Yes, once you have shown you live there; a tenancy agreement or a letter with the address is the obvious thing to have ready. In a shared house the landlord is responsible for both the front door and the room doors, so a new lock on either is their decision: tell them or the letting agent first.

Try your housemates before you call: whoever is in can let you through the front door, which leaves only your room.

I live in a student block near the Baltic Triangle. Who gets me in?

The building's own management for the street door and its fob, because that door serves every flat. Once you are inside the building, your flat or room door is one we can open, after you have shown you live there.

If you have lost a fob as well as a key, ask the building about the fob: it belongs to them.

Does it matter whether my shared house is licensed?

It tells you who answers for the house. Liverpool requires a licence for "all properties with five or more people who make up two or more households", and a selective scheme running until March 2027 covers most of the city's private lets.

The council says licensed properties must "meet fire, electric and gas safety standards and be in a good state of repair", so a front door that will not lock properly is worth reporting to your landlord straight away. If you lost the key yourself, expect the cost to be yours unless your tenancy says otherwise.

A euro cylinder taken out of a UPVC front door with a multi-point lock
The cylinder from a multi-point UPVC door, taken out.

Terraced streets and older doors: Walton, Anfield, Kensington and the rest of the city

Most Liverpool households live in houses, not flats: 37.9% in terraced houses and 30.7% in semi-detached ones. On a terrace you are usually outside your own front door, and on an older one that door may still be timber, with a mortice lock or a night latch rather than a UPVC multi-point lock.

Not sure which lock you have? Describe it on the call: a UPVC handle with a keyhole, a round night latch, or a keyhole for a mortice lower down the door.

Thirteen Liverpool districts, figure by figure
  • Walton, Smithdown Road and Anfield: 67.5%, 64.1% and 58.4% of households live in terraced houses, the three highest shares in the table, so the door is usually a house's own front door.

  • Kensington, Anfield and Wavertree: 80.3%, 69.2% and 69.1% of homes with an energy certificate were built before 1930, so you may meet an older timber door with a mortice lock or a night latch.

  • West Derby: 8.3% of households live in flats, the lowest share in the table, and 12.2% rent privately.

  • Speke and Everton: 51.9% and 50.8% of households rent from a social landlord, the highest shares here; your association's rule on lost keys applies.

The table is Census 2021 at neighbourhood (MSOA) level. The pre-1930 shares in the notes come from energy performance certificate data, for districts with enough certificates. A district name here means the MSOA that contains its sample postcode: a working label, not an official boundary.

My old timber front door is deadlocked. Can it be opened without damage?

That depends on the lock, and on a Kensington or Anfield terrace it may well be a mortice deadlock in a timber door rather than a UPVC multi-point lock. Our non-destructive entry service opens a door without replacing anything where the lock allows it; anti-snap and high-security cylinders, and a multi-point lock with a seized gearbox, can resist it. If a lock has to be drilled, the replacement is priced before anything is drilled.

Half my key is stuck in the lock. What now?

Removing a broken key is a job in itself, called key extraction, and we price it before starting. Whether the lock can stay depends on the damage; our broken key extraction page describes the work.

I've lost my keys. Do I need a new lock?

If you cannot account for every key, a new cylinder or lock stops the lost ones working. We change locks, and the make of the new lock and the standard it meets are written on our quote before it goes in.

If you rent, agree it with your landlord or housing association first: on a timber door with a mortice and a night latch, both may need changing, and that is their door.

Lock standards: BS 3621, TS 007 and PAS 24

Every All Services 4U quote names the lock and the standard it meets. Secured by Design calls BS 3621 "the minimum standard for locks on external or entrance doors", and Union, a lock maker, says "Most insurance policies will require a property to have BS3621 locks on all ground floor external locks".

Union adds that "Multi-point locks comply to a different standard", and your own policy wording sets what your insurer requires, so read it before you choose a lock.

BS 3621, TS 007 and PAS 24, one by one
  • BS 3621:2017

Lock assemblies operated by key from both the inside and the outside of the door. Union says the easiest way to tell if a lock meets it is the Kitemark symbol on the faceplate.

Where it applies: Locks on external and entrance doors

  • TS 007

The Door and Hardware Federation's enhanced security requirements for replacement cylinders and associated security hardware, as Secured by Design describes it.

    Where it applies: Replacement cylinders

  • PAS 24

In Secured by Design's words, "New door assemblies are covered by PAS 24".

Checking a Liverpool locksmith, or sorting out one that overcharged

Put five questions to any locksmith before they set off. If one has already overcharged you, Liverpool City Council's trading standards team asks to be told.

How do I know if a locksmith is legit?

Ask these on the phone. A firm that dodges any of them has given you your answer.

  1. Who exactly are you, and where are you based?
  2. What is the likely total with labour, parts and VAT, and will you warn me before going past it?
  3. Will you put that in writing before starting?
  4. Can the lock be opened without drilling, and if not, what does a replacement cost?
  5. Who is coming, and will they show ID at the door?

Here are ours. The company is All Service 4 U Limited (Companies House 07565878), with its head office in East Barnet in north London, while our locksmiths are based and work locally.

What should I do if a locksmith has ripped me off?

Report them. Liverpool City Council's scams and doorstep crime page lists "Charging unreasonable prices." among the commonest doorstep crimes, and asks residents to give trading standards the "Address or area where trader is working", a "Description of trader", the "Vehicle and registration" and the "Type of work".

Keep whatever you were given in writing, and the number you rang.

Who will knock on my door, and what will they ask me for?

An All Services 4U locksmith, who shows ID at the door. The council's advice is to identify any caller "by insisting on seeing and checking their identification". Before any door is opened we always ask for proof that you live there, so have a tenancy agreement, a council tax letter or a bill with the address on it ready if you can.

All Services 4U operatives hold DBS Basic checks, and a small number hold DBS Enhanced. Ask on the call which check the person coming holds.

Certified, insured and registered

Who is accountable: our certificates, our insurance, and how to check them

Which certificates does All Services 4U hold, and how do I check them?

At All Services 4U, we hold ISO 9001:2015 (certificate GB-Q265-1), ISO 14001:2015 (EM-1102) and ISO 45001:2018 (HS-1102) certificates and SafeContractor approval (SY1948). We also hold Once For All Health & Safety and Constructionline Gold, and we are NICEIC approved for our electrical work. Ask us for a copy of any certificate and we send it.

Are locksmiths regulated in the UK, and is All Services 4U MLA approved?

Locksmiths are not regulated by the Government in the UK, and All Services 4U is not a member of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA). The MLA, the trade's voluntary body, says "the locksmithing industry is not regulated in any way by the Government in the United Kingdom".

What you can check about All Services 4U instead: our company number at Companies House (07565878), our ISO 9001 and SafeContractor certificates with their issuers, and our published hourly rates. Our insurance confirmation is sent on request, and you can ask on the call which DBS check the person attending holds.

Thank you!!

Locksmith services in Liverpool from All Services 4U

All Services 4U is a locksmith and property maintenance company. We handle eight kinds of locksmith job. Opening a door and changing a lock are charged at our published hourly rate; other work, and any parts, are quoted before they start.

  • Locked out: emergency entry

We answer calls at any hour and open locked doors on homes and businesses. Non-destructive entry, which leaves the lock in place where it can be done, is one of our services.

  • Lock changes

We change locks after a move, a lost key or a tenant leaving, and write the make and standard of the new lock on the quote.

    Changing locks · Lock upgrades

  • Lost keys

When every key is lost, we can open the door and, if you choose, change the lock so the lost keys no longer work; each is quoted first.

    Lost keys

  • Broken key extraction

We remove a key snapped in the lock and quote any repair to the lock before starting it.

  • Lock and door repairs

We repair failed locks and UPVC multi-point mechanisms, and repair UPVC and timber doors when the lock is not the only damage.

Lock repairs · UPVC door repair · Timber door repair

  • Burglary repair and boarding up

After a break-in we quote the work the door needs: a replacement lock, a temporary repair or boarding up. Report the crime to the police first.

  • Landlords and managing agents

We change locks for landlords and agents, including after a bailiff-led eviction, and leave an itemised report for the property file.

  • Shops, offices and other premises

We handle office and shop lockouts, restricted master key systems, panic bars and access control for businesses.
