  1. Ring with the postcode

Say whether you are stuck at the street door, the entry phone or your own door. We tell you on the call when the nearest locksmith can reach you.

  2. Ask the porter or agent

A concierge, porter or letting agent may hold a spare key, and asking costs nothing while you wait.

Well organised from first phone call. The lady was quick, efficient and she was able to give us a price for the job straight away. Edward (apologises if I have mis-remembered your name!) was excellent. He was super friendly and professional. He clearly was experienced and had our front door open again in minutes after locking ourselves out with another set of keys still in on the other side! The price was excellent for an emergency callout on a Sunday. (Leicestershire area) Highly recommended.

A brilliant company including the call handler who was so sympthetic. They are local to me and arrived within about 30 mins. My key was left in the lock on the inside of my front door as I hurried out and it open within minutes using a simple gadget. Thank you!!

Need someone tonight in W1, SW1 or the City?

Yes. All Services 4U answers the phone at any hour, and we send locksmiths to addresses across Westminster and the City of London day and night.

How soon can a locksmith get to a Central London address?

It depends where the nearest locksmith's last job was, so the time is worked out on the call, once we know who is free, rather than quoted as a standard figure. You hear it before you agree to anything.

Give us the postcode and the nearest street corner or building name. In a block, say which floor and whether a porter or entry phone stands between the street and your flat.

Is there anyone in the building who could let me in first?

Possibly, and it costs nothing to ask while you wait.

  • A porter, concierge or estate office: if your building has one, ask there first. On the Barbican, the City of London Corporation tells residents to notify the concierge about repairs out of hours.
  • Your letting agent: more than half of households in Marylebone and Bayswater rent privately, and an agent may hold a spare key. Try its out-of-hours line.
  • Only shut out of the street door? A neighbour can buzz you into the hallway; that needs no locksmith.
  • Nobody answers? Ring us; you have lost nothing by trying first.

My ID and keys are inside the flat. How do I show I live here?

Proof that you live there is needed before the door is opened, so gather what you can reach from outside: a bill, a bank letter or a tenancy agreement in your email or on your phone. In a block, the porter or concierge may know you by sight, and a letting agent holds your tenancy. Tell us on the call what you have, before anyone sets off.

  1. You ring

Calls are answered 24 hours a day. Our locksmiths travel from their last job, not a depot, so on the call we tell you when the nearest one can reach you.

    • Calls answered every day, 24 hours
    • Live updates on the arrival time
  2. We ask

Which door you are outside, whether you own or rent, what has happened, and what the lock looks like.

  3. We quote in writing

Before work starts: the labour time we expect, named parts with the lock's make and standard, VAT and an estimated total. If the job changes or will run over, we stop and quote again.

  4. At your door

Our locksmith shows ID, and we always ask for proof that you live at the address before a door is opened.

  5. Afterwards

You get an itemised report of the job, and our labour is guaranteed for six months against faulty workmanship.

Who should ring us, and who should ring someone else

We take calls from tenants, owners, landlords, managing agents and small businesses locked out of a home or business premises, or with a lock that has failed or been forced.

  • Locked out of a car

For a car lockout, our auto locksmith service has its own page; this page covers homes and business premises.

  • A smart lock

Fitting a smart lock is planned work, not an emergency: our smart lock page covers it.

Lockout prices in Central London, and the low phone quote to distrust

All Services 4U publishes its hourly labour rate, charges no call-out fee and puts the quote in writing before work begins, so you can check the figure before anyone touches the door.

A set of new keys on a tagged ring, hanging from a front door lock
Keys on a tagged ring, hanging from a newly fitted lock.

How much is a locksmith in Central London, and is it more at night?

Yes, nights cost more. All Services 4U charges £59 an hour on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and £69 an hour at all other times, evenings, nights and weekends included, both plus VAT (£70.80 and £82.80). There is no call-out charge, and the minimum is one hour of labour, then 15-minute steps.

Parking, travelling, fuel and congestion are not charged, which matters in the middle of London.

A new cylinder or a door repair, if one is needed, is priced separately on the written quote, which lists the expected hours, named parts, VAT and an estimated total. If the job grows, the locksmith stops and quotes again.

Work out the labour cost

We charge labour by the hour, with a one-hour minimum and 15-minute steps after that. Choose when you need the locksmith and how long the job takes; your locksmith tells you the expected time before starting.

Labour £59.00 + VAT £11.80 = £70.80

Labour only. Parts, such as a replacement cylinder, and any door or frame repair are quoted separately, in writing, before work starts. No call-out charge.

Someone quoted me a very low price on the phone. Should I worry?

Treat it with care. Which?, in an April 2024 report, says "Locksmiths aren’t regulated", and names "bait and switch pricing, where you’re quoted a low price that is inflated after the locksmith arrives at your home" as a common scam.

Before anyone sets off, ask for the firm's name and where it is based, an estimated total split into labour, parts and VAT, that figure in writing before work starts, who pays if the door or frame is damaged, and the name of the person coming.

To answer the first for ourselves: All Service 4 U Limited, Companies House 07565878. Our head office is in East Barnet, north London, and our locksmiths are based and work locally. We are not members of the Master Locksmiths Association; our ISO and SafeContractor certificates can be checked with their issuers (how to check them).

Four things move the price

Four things move the price

Four things change what a locksmith job costs: the time of day, the lock and the door, any damage, and parts.

  • The time you need the door openedAn evening, weekend or night call is priced differently from a daytime one, so ask which rate applies.
  • The lock and the doorA standard latch opens differently from an anti-snap cylinder or a multi-point UPVC lock.
  • DamageA snapped key, a forced door or a seized mechanism adds work.
  • PartsA replacement cylinder or lock body is a cost separate from opening the door.

A locksmith quote that does not separate time, lock, damage and parts is harder to check. The protection is the one question you can ask: what is the estimated total, and will the locksmith stop and tell you before it goes over?

Ring for the rate and a written quote

Tell All Services 4U the address and which door. The quote comes in writing, by text or email, before any work starts.

Porters, entry phones and mansion-block doors

In Central London the locked door is often the building's, not yours. Census 2021 puts 70.2% of Westminster households and 87.0% of City of London households in purpose-built blocks, and another 16.1% of Westminster households in converted or shared houses. Tell us which door you are stuck at, because a different person can say yes to each.

  • On the street

    The building's front door

Usually the freeholder's, with the managing agent or residents' company deciding on any work to it. Have their name ready when you ring.

  • Lobby and corridors

    Entry phones and corridor doors

These serve every flat, so changes need the managing agent's agreement. A porter or concierge, where the block has one, can tell you how to reach the agent at night.

  • Your flat

    Your own front door

Owners decide, within what the lease allows. In a rented flat, any new lock is for the landlord or agent to agree.

  1. You own the flat

Ring us with the postcode and say which door is shut. If it is the building's, see who opens the street door.

  2. You rent privately

Ring us; try your letting agent's out-of-hours line too. Opening the door and changing the lock.

  3. Westminster council or Barbican

Lost keys are yours to arrange or pay for. Westminster's emergency line is 0800 358 3783; Barbican Property Services 020 7029 3909. Who pays when keys are lost.

  4. You let or manage the flat

Ring or send the property details. Westminster's licence and a lock change between tenants.

  5. Office, shop or restaurant

Same number, any hour. Seized locks and failed exit buttons.

I can't get past the street door or the entry phone. Who can open it?

Whoever runs the building: a managing agent, the freeholder or a residents' management company. A locksmith works on a shared door only with their agreement, so ring them or the building's out-of-hours number first, or ask a neighbour to buzz you in.

If none of them answers, tell us which applies and we tell you what we can do.

I rent privately. Will you open my flat, and can you change the lock?

We open it once you have shown that you live there.

A new lock changes the landlord's property, so agree it with the landlord or agent first, and check what your tenancy agreement says about locks and keys.

I let a flat in Westminster. Is there anything to know before changing the locks between tenants?

Check first whether your flat needs a licence. Westminster City Council says "Privately rented homes in 15 wards will need a licence from 24 November 2025"; its scheme "covers 15 of the city’s 18 wards", and "Pimlico South", "St James’" and "Vincent Square" are the three wards outside it (do I need a licence?). For the lock change itself, give us the address and the reason; the itemised report records what was fitted, for your property file.

My flat door is a fire door. Can the lock still be changed?

Ask the managing agent before a fire door is drilled or given a new lock. Westminster City Council's Tenant Handbook tells its tenants not to remove door closers fitted for fire safety, and says "Don’t fit locks or obstruct escape routes." Our fire door inspection and fire door repair pages cover that work.

How often a block's fire doors must be checked

Regulation 10 of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 says the responsible person for a building "which contains two or more sets of domestic premises and which is above 11 metres in height, must use best endeavours to undertake checks of fire doors at the entrances of individual domestic premises in the building at least every 12 months", and must check communal fire doors "at least every 3 months".

Westminster council flats and the Barbican: who pays when keys are lost

If the council or the City of London Corporation is your landlord, read its rule before you ring anyone. Westminster makes lockouts its tenants' job, and the Barbican recharges tenants and leaseholders for lock changes after lost keys. Social renting runs from 10.9% of households around Marylebone to 57.8% around Lisson Grove and Church Street.

I'm a Westminster council tenant and I'm locked out. Will the council come?

Lockouts are yours to arrange. Westminster City Council's Tenant Handbook lists "Getting extra keys cut; replacement locks if keys are lost and lockouts" among the repairs tenants are responsible for, along with "Top locks (Yale)".

The council does treat "Break-ins where property is unsecure and no secondary means of locking" as an immediate repair. For that, ring its emergency repairs line, 0800 358 3783. The same handbook says "Residents must not replace their flat entrance door", so check with the council before any work goes beyond the lock.

I live on the Barbican and I've lost my keys. Does the estate office change the lock?

Expect to pay for it. The City of London Corporation's Barbican repairs page says "Both City of London tenants and the leaseholders will be recharged for lock changes if they lose their keys." It adds that "The estate office will not arrange for the lock changes for Chubb and other security locks which always remains the responsibility of residents."

Property Services is on 020 7029 3909; out of hours, the page says to notify your concierge. Tenants on other City of London Corporation estates report repairs on 0800 035 0003, "24 hours, seven days a week."

Housing association tenants should ring their own association's repairs line first. If the lock is yours to arrange, ring All Services 4U; the written quote names the lock's make and standard, so you can check it against what your landlord allows.

Lost keys in a council or Barbican flat? Ring us for the lock

Tell us the estate or block and the lock on the door. The written quote names the make and standard before any work starts.

Offices, shops and restaurants: seized locks and failed exit buttons

Businesses in the West End and the City ring the same number, 020 3627 0820, at any hour. Both locksmith jobs All Services 4U has written up in Central London were for businesses.

Our keys keep snapping in a lock at work. Repair it or replace it?

Keys that keep breaking can mean the cylinder is failing, not the keys. At a commercial storage unit in Soho (W1D), several keys had broken inside the lock; our locksmith found the cylinder had seized, removed the old lock and fitted a new one in a single visit.

Read the Soho storage unit job.

Staff can't open a magnetically locked door from inside. What now?

Ring straight away and tell us which part has failed, if you know. At Audley House in Victoria (SW1E), the exit push button on a magnetically locked door had failed, so occupants could not release the door from inside; our engineer replaced the button and tested the circuit on 15 January 2026, in one visit.

Listed buildings and doors older than 1930

If your building is listed, ask before any work that goes beyond the lock itself. Westminster City Council says listed building consent "is required for any works to a listed building that would affect its special architectural or historic interest", and that it is "a criminal offence" to carry out such works without consent, "even if you did not know that the building was listed."

That covers a lot of Central London: the council counts "around 11,000 buildings and other structures in Westminster" on the list and 56 conservation areas, and the City of London has "more than 600 listed buildings" and 28 conservation areas.

My flat is in a listed building. What should I check before work on the door?

Tell us on the call that the building is listed. Consent turns on whether the work affects the building's special interest, and the council says it "covers all parts of the building (interior and exterior)". If a job would mean cutting into an original door or replacing it, ask the owner or the council first; the written quote shows exactly what would be done to the door.

My building is older than 1930. What should I tell the locksmith?

Describe the door and every lock on it: what kind of key it takes, where each keyhole sits, and whether the door is timber or a later replacement. Old buildings are common here: more than six in ten homes with an energy certificate in Bayswater (69.6%), Marylebone (62.8%) and Maida Vale (62.5%) were built before 1930, against 0.9% in the City. Whether a lock opens without damage depends on the lock itself, and the quote says who is responsible for any damage to the door or frame.

Lock standards: BS 3621, TS 007 and PAS 24

Every All Services 4U quote names the lock and the standard it meets. Secured by Design calls BS 3621 "the minimum standard for locks on external or entrance doors", and Union, a lock maker, says "Most insurance policies will require a property to have BS3621 locks on all ground floor external locks".

Union adds that "Multi-point locks comply to a different standard", and your own policy wording sets what your insurer requires, so read it before you choose a lock.

BS 3621, TS 007 and PAS 24, one by one
  • BS 3621:2017

Lock assemblies operated by key from both the inside and the outside of the door. Union says the easiest way to tell if a lock meets it is the Kitemark symbol on the faceplate.

Where it applies: Locks on external and entrance doors

  • TS 007

The Door and Hardware Federation's enhanced security requirements for replacement cylinders and associated security hardware, as Secured by Design describes it.

    Where it applies: Replacement cylinders

  • PAS 24

In Secured by Design's words, "New door assemblies are covered by PAS 24".

Locksmiths are not regulated by the Government in the UK, and All Services 4U is not a member of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA). The MLA, the trade's voluntary body, says "the locksmithing industry is not regulated in any way by the Government in the United Kingdom".

What you can check about All Services 4U instead: our company number at Companies House (07565878), our ISO 9001 and SafeContractor certificates with their issuers, and our published hourly rates.
